Just got my Riviera Plans!

Hello all, long time lurker, infrequent commentor, but finally pulled the trigger on the Riviera plans! I am an industrial equipment sales engineer, wood butcher, and guitar building hobbyist who fell in love with this site a couple of years ago. Finally decided on the Riv, and took advantage before...

Try wiping with naptha....this will show you what a clear finish will look like....do it on my guitars all the time when I get a little impatient.

Gorgeous boat, love the lines, the colors. Can you tell us what's in it and how she performed? Video? Again, beautiful boat.

Ah a guitar builder, after my own heart, would love to see some of your work on both the boat and past guitars. Good luck with your build, I am still a few years from starting mine.

Re: Messy

Another great tool is to turn a standard stanley razor blade into a scraper. Ran a fresh new edge along the side of a vice or hardened steel tool to turn a bur, and VOILA! A perfectly good scraper for exactly what you are talking about, took seconds to make, and 100 of em is what, $5? One of the bes...

Re: Matthias Wandel's homemade bandsaw build

You are WAY ahead of me. I have about half of the lumber for the frame rough cut, un-notched. I am using pine, oak is going to be HEAVY! Looks good, and I wouldn't expect even laser cut parts to fit without some "customization" to make it perfect after assembly. Wood grows and moves with glue....you...

Wow, I'd start with putting a little 10 horse on the back of that bed and seeing what she'll do!

Re: Glen-L Newsletter Tip

I think it's a great idea as well. My only concern here is the viability of the ink. We've all seen printed pictures that start fading after a few months in the light, I would be concerned with that happening on a boat. One way to alleviate that is to use the newer Kodak printers. Their new ink is s...

Re: Triton Tools

I actually bought the plans, and have just begun the saw. Plans are very straightforward, though in metric (I mind twister for me, but a good exercise). I'll let everyone know how it works out. Hope to have it finished this fall.....lots going on keeping me out of the shop these days.
