Re: Help with vacuum bagging pump

if you have a compressor that is capable of running continuously without overheating, then controlling the amount of vacuum is easily done, using an inexpensive $10 pressure relief valve like this: http://www.grainger.com/product/CDI-CONTROL-DEVICES-Valve-5Z763?s_pp=false&picUrl=//static.grainger.co...

Re: Roberta's Torpedo

With the Gentry, I seem to be burning about 4 gallons an hour of mixed speed with my 283 Chevy/Chris 185 hp.

Re: buildingform to trailer

I moved my gentry off my dollies onto my trailer (wheels taken off) with a engine lift and a come-along hooked to an overhead beam. Pretty smooth. I made trailer dollies to roll the boat around the shop.

Mike- Here's another shot of the girls in front on Walloon Lake this summer. Scenery is probably pretty much the same as Torch.

Re: Shop Sizes?

shop heat is a must in northern climates, or you just don't work. I've found gloves and a parka are not an option. Neel is correct on the epoxy. Same for many other glues as well.

Re: Shop Sizes?

I was fortunate to have a shop that was much bigger than my Gentry that was built in it. I think you can build a boat with no more than two feet on each side, BUT bench space to hold all the tools, paint, hardware is absolutely necessary. But without a space for table saw, bandsaw, stationary sander...

Re: Gentry in Minnesota

Just returned last night from a two week trip to Michigan, where I was fortunate to be part of the 37th annual Les Cheneaux Islands boat show. Over 150 boats in the water. Lotza fun. Some absolutely stunning boats. Many old, some new.

Re: Malahini chine help please

In building my Gentry, here is what I did to get the extreme bends of most of my top deck strips. I used two sections of 2" pvc pipe as shown, filled with water. I put my mahogany strips in there for eight hours to get them good and wet. Then I took them out and clamped them, without glue, where the...

Re: Gentry in Minnesota

In my world, steel is merely another material, like wood, just a few different tools to work it, with a few different techniques.

Re: Gentry in Minnesota

It's been a while since I've last posted. I ended last summer with 33 hours on the engine meter, having started with zero. Plan for the winter was to have the carburetor re-worked. Had a problem with the original Carter WCFB accelerating smoothly through the mid into high range. Second item was to m...
