Re: increasing trailer length

I concur. This doesn't seem to be a good trailer for something like a Bo Jest.

Re: Mahogany Opinions

Interesting question--and one I thought a great deal about when I built mine. Fit and finish is always the difference between good and great if all other things are equal, but they seldom are. At a boat show, I see many stunning boats, which alone at a marina draw endless attention for their classic...

Re: First major problem with Zip build

Stupid question:
The break looks pulled apart.
Was this laminated, then bent, or or bent one lam at a time?

Re: Butt joint on side planking

Paint was my only option.

Bronze screw heads, epoxy, filler, etc. Paint covers a multitude of sins.

Good luck!

Re: Zip transom curisioty question

Bear in mind, the 20" measurement is not precise across all engine offerings. It will serve you well to have your engine selected and measured before you construct your transom. If that isn't realistic, make your transom a bit taller than need be and you can trim it later for the exact motor you end...

Re: Monroe Malahini

Many of us have had to add lumber to the chine area up front to keep from going concave. This has an added benefit too! You generally wind up with thicker chines in that area than you would have had it been done correctly. And..., it's laminated construction (stronger). Given the pounding boats can ...

Re: Andy's Zip build

Chris, Thanks for the compliment! When I get around to a new deck, it will incorporate much of the same aesthetic 'DNA' if you will, as the current visual configuration--I like it too. I just think I can do it better with field boards, cover boards, etc. We shall see... Mike, Your point on seat cons...

Re: Andy's Zip build

Chris, As for re-decking, I just have the 1/4" ply with epoxy and paint. I love my paint job, but I've always wanted the more 'lustrous' style deck enjoyed by you and others. I've always been inspired by this one: http://www.glen-l.com/designs/outboard/outboard-images/dsn-zip.jpg I like the raised c...

Re: Outboard recommendations?

I have a 1961 Mercury 700 for sale right now. 70HP, 2-stroke 'power tower' It's complete with lower and even an old prop. I bought it for just the reason you stated--fix it up. 2-strokes are pretty bullet proof, new decals are available on Ebay, the motors are just beautiful all white, so it seemed ...
