Gentry build- Another question

Hi All, I am at the point where I will be installing the two keel laminations. I am slightly (really) confused as to how to fasten these lams. The instructions say no permanent fasteners are required Temporary fasteners can be used if sufficient clamps are not available to hold the lams together. Th...

Gentry build

I would like to post a few pictures to show progress. All frames, transom, breasthook, stem, motor stringers have been encapsulated and the building form is in place. Everything is level, plumb, and straight. I am going to attach all to sstringers after I return from a Florida vacation in early Febr...

My Gentry build....

I have made good progress for someone my age. All frames, transom, stem, breasthook, and motor stringers have been completed with three coats of epoxy resin. I have built and anchored the building form and have just finished leveling everything. Ready to make it look like a Gentry now. I saw an earl...

Re: Gentry Build

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I didn't think that sofa would be that interesting, but I guess I was wrong. If anyone would like it, let me know. You can have it free and I will pay the shipping just to get rid of it....Neel

Gentry Build

Hellow All: I have made great progress on my Gentry project. I have completed all frames, the transom, stem, and breasthook. They are currently being encapsulated. I have the motor stringers marked and ready to be worked on. I used African Mahagony for frames, motor stringers, and transon. Gussets a...

Re: Gentry buile--a few more questions

I think you are right on target, and maybe I have made this a bigger deal than it reaally is. I will simply keep the taper points where they are on the plans. Thanks,,,,,,Neel

Re: Gentry buile--a few more questions

You people are great...Thanks for the quick replies. I get the transom height and the delema as to whether to glue or not to glue the deck beams to the frames. I will ponder this for a while. As for the taper on the motor stringers, it is tapered between frames four and five aft of the stem on the l...

Gentry buile--a few more questions

Well, more questions have come up. I have finished the transom except for the shelf and uprights. Frames #1 and #2 have been glued up and I am ready to start on #3. All frame pieces have been cut and are ready for assembly. Question 1: When attaching the deck beams, they call for carriage bolts. Do ...

Re: Gentry build....transom

Thanks for the pics....They are definately helpful, especially when it comes to the Gentry transom !! I laminated the three pieces of mahagony together to form the transom floor timber. The two transom bottom frame pieces have be laminated, glued to floor timber and to both sides of the frame. Shelf...

Gentry build....transom

I have cut all pieces for the frames out of African Mahagony. All frame plywood pieces were cut out of DF or Okume. I made plywood patterns of each piece first, then ran everything on my table router with a trim bit with top bearing. Everything came out better than expected. Now I am working on the ...

Re: Question about Nissan Outboards

KB, I have a 1989 Nissan outboard (90 hp) on a small speed boat I have. I bought it used a couple years ago, and it has been a great motor. The only problem I have had with it is that it doesn't idle very well because it only has three cylinders. It does idle, but a little rough. I guess when you tr...

Gentry breasthook placement

Another point of confusion as I prepare to cut the frames and other members soon. It appears from the plans that the point on the forward end of the top lam of the breasthook should be flush with the forward center line of the stem. I have looked at photos and the plans and it seems like if I notch ...
