Re: Inaugural Aussie Glen-L Gathering

Bill, are you sure? I was going to also get a panther crossing you could take from Florida. I am sure they already have the crocs, but our gators signs are everywhere. Peter, couldn't agree more!! Need to stay on the lighter side. Got a few years on you and things don't work like they used to, but l...

Re: Monaco Caper

Thought I would be doing glass work on bottom today, but instead am scraping and sanding off gummy epoxy and 210 faring I applied yesterday. We have had rain , 3 inches yesterday , every day for the last week is seems. Temperatures high, but humidity also very high. Was getting a little too comforta...

Re: Inaugural Aussie Glen-L Gathering

I wish you great times and success at your gathering this year. I am also hoping to attend ours for the first time (boat won't go yet) Wanted to tell you that I received this sign from my deceased brother in law, who was formerly of the Secret Service during the President Carter and Reagan era. Don'...

Re: Aussie Riveria update

Peter Thanks. I'm getting close to glassing. Put two coats of clear epoxy on transom today. It's nice to see the real beauty of the wood finally. Sides tomorrow, then a little more fairing on the bottom next week, and glass by weekend. Following weekend bottom paint. I did prep for glass by rounding...

Re: Aussie Riveria update

Peter,

I may have missed this in your build, but did you glass your bottom and sides at all? Your boat looks great.

Re: Monaco Caper

Neel,

That would be wonderful. Glad to have you. I keep waiting for the rich relatives my Dad always told me about to show up!!

We live in the mountains of Florida. (74 feet elevation) :D

I hope to be real close to have her done then, but as you know, things happen :)

Re: Monaco Caper

Thanks Neel. By the way, we may be related as I am also a Thompson. Don't panic :) Maybe someone else can tell us if the glassed epoxy will match up with the clear epoxy. Or, maybe I will just build a sample board with both. That will certainly show me. As I said, my issue was also with getting glas...

Re: Monaco Caper

Neel, thank you. Would the same hold true if I was just planning on a clear epoxy and varnish on the sides?

I think right now I have my tape about an inch above the plans. I totally agree with putting her in the water for the final boot stripe location. That's good advice.
Thanks

Bill,

I have now decided like you that sanding isn't my favorite thing to do.

Can't wait for the painting!

(and my project is half the size of yours)

Re: Monaco Caper

On another note. Close to laying the fiberglass on the bottom up to the boot stripe. Just rounded my beautiful square corners along the chine and transom, as I had not looked at the forum or fiberglass video until I was getting close. My question is: Because I will not be glassing the sides above th...

Re: Utility build

I certainly am not the most experienced builder on the forum, but during my Monaco build went through the same issue , overthinking and striving for perfection. For example my sheer dipped in a little between a couple of frames, so I epoxied on another shim piece and belt sanded it down fair. On my ...

Re: Aussie Riveria update

Peter,

Looking really great. I was closing the gap on you but am now back in stasis with business stuff.

I am hoping my Farm Trac will do what your Kubota did :) Be nice to roll her out, pick her up and set her down on a new trailer.

Beautiful job.

Re: Monaco Caper

Old Aussie Peter Thanks . Your photo and joint look real good. Yes, my joint didn't seem to go quite as I had dreamed it would, but think it came out okay. My real issue was what BillC called "mottle" on my strakes on the port side (which may now be the 'away from dock' side) :? I didn't pay much at...
