GERONIMO's windshield

Howdy, I have a question for you folks who have used the Lake Shore castings cast aluminum windshield brackets - I mentioned in an earlier post that the slots in my brackets are a little less than a quarter inch, so the 1/4" ply won't fit to make the pattern. Neither will the 1/4" tempered glass. I ...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Hi Matt, I just finished the "floor" in my Geronimo. It's all 9mm okoume and I knew there could be a lot of flex. Under all of the decking except the part over the bilge I did pour-in-place foam so those areas are solid - I used white oak for the battens but made them all a little wider, eg 3" vs 2 ...

Re: Roustabout build in progress

Hi Elliot, that's good progress! I really liked the Roustabout plans - I'm building the Geronimo (16'), I wasn't quite sure if I could squeeze the Roustabout build into my garage. I think it would do okay in a mild chop with that deep vee. I have an evinrude etec90 , for some reason it doesn't weigh...

Re: GERONIMO - Here's lookin' at ya

Thanks for the nice comments. Bryan, yes I agree, in that picture it looks like a real little motor! I think partly it's the shot, but I remember when I first saw one on a stand in the store it looked Huge. I thought this is gonna be a burden on the boat, and especially since I've never had a power ...

GERONIMO - Here's lookin' at ya

yes, the boat will never actually be "done" I guess, but at this point I could launch it if I had to! I still need to do the windshield, some deck floors and a better throttle bracket but I'm close to being done - maybe another five or six weeks. But I did get an important step done yesterday. "Big ...

Re: GERONIMO'S windshield

Thanks again guys. Tomorrow I'll check with the glass shop to see if they can grind the ends of the glass, or a machine shop that can mill out the slots more. I'm not worried about the plating flaking along the cut, maybe if it were electroless nickel or a coating but not triple chrome. Any disadvan...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Looking good Matt. I'll tell you a story about my dash - I spent a lot of time going through 5/4 african mahogany to get the prettiest grain pattern I could find, and more time to get the nicest piece to complement that pattern for the extension I added under the wheel. All the holes cut and six or ...

Re: GERONIMO'S windshield

Well, I know where I want to put the brackets but have a couple more issues. I went to get 1/4" plywood at the big store and guess what it's not exactly .25 inch, it's marked .234" which would be fine except I brought the side bracket along and even .234 does not fit into the channel, it's just a li...

Re: GERONIMO'S windshield

Matt, how did you change the angle on the center post, I'm thinking putting the base on a belt sander? These don't sit on the deck flush anyway, I'll probably have to sand flat spots then touch up the paint. Bob

Re: GERONIMO'S windshield

Matt and Jim, thanks a lot for the advice and the pictures - you both have really nice boats. I have another question for you guys. When you traced out the curvature of the dash on the bottom of the plywood - what did you cut that with - I don't have a bandsaw so I'll be using my sabre saw then fini...

GERONIMO'S windshield

Howdy folks, well I'm getting closer to finishing my Geronimo. I know many of you have built windshields using brackets like these (this is where I got the idea, Bob Brandenstein's Malahini build) and I would like to hear how some of you did it. So I got the Lake Shore cast aluminum brackets and had...

Re: Another Geronimo Coming Soon

Matt, I really like those seats. Are you putting them on pedestals or building into the floor? My original intention was to build wooden seats and have them upholstered ala '56 Chevy but... I've got some Wise bucket seats and pedestals for up front, don't know about the back yet. If my wife saw that...

Re: Another Geronimo Coming Soon

Howdy Matt, good to hear from you! I can't remember well enough to tell you much about how I did the intermediate deck beam but here's a couple of pictures that show the beam in place. I do remember the blocking wasn't real pretty and I used a lot of epoxy and quik-faire; but you don't see it, and t...
