gas assist hatch lifts

I'm getting ready to install the engine hatches on my Miss Chris. I want to use the gas assist lifts. How do I determine the size (length and pounds force) to get the right ones? Do I weigh the door and then buy based on the weight? The lifts are rated by pounds of force. Does that correspond to the...

Re: building seats for Miss Chris

Thanks for the good ideas and reasond to put holes in the seats. I'll drill a pattern with a 3" hole saw and then easy the edges with a round over bit. Thanks.
Maybe I'll even get the boat finished and into the water this next spring!

building seats for Miss Chris

I'm building the seat backs and bases for my Miss Chris. I'm using 1/2" plywood and was wondering if it would be a good idea to drill holes in the plywood for ventilation. When I built Ken Bassett's Rascal I made frames for both backs and seats and then used a webbing material before having the upho...

windshield brackets?

I'm getting to the point on my Hankinson Miss Chris that I'll be installing hardware. I've not seen any windshield brackets that look like they'll work. Does anyone know of sources for either chrome or SS ones?
Thanks, Steve

Dark colors??

I'm building a runabout with painted topsides. I have used 3 layers of 4mm occume, one layer of 6 oz cloth and 2 coats of Interlux epoxy primer. I'd like to paint the topsides a dark color but read coments that suggest that the heat build up could cause delamination. I'm in NY so not subject to trop...

to epoxy coat or not?

I've just turned over my 26' Miss Chris. I'm wondering whether or not to coat interior surfaces with epoxy or should I just paint them. What have others done and what are the long term expectations?

turning it over

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm a contractor too so I guess it will be ropes, a forklift and lots of friends. I want to get this one done so I can get started on the Quiet Times that Fifty Plus built!

Turning it over

I'm just finishing the hull of the 26' version of Miss Chris. I have seen photos of others turning their hulls but still don't quite get the proceedure. Could someone describe in detail exactly how to accomplish it? I have access to a travelift if I'm going to use straps. I have also read of buildin...

WEST vs. CEPS

I'm building Miss Chris and plan to seal the bilges with either WEST epoxy or Smith's CEPS. Any thought on one vs. the other? I want to protect the ocume plywood and paint after with bilge paint. Will the CEPES be as good a preservative as epoxy?

I'm in the process of building Miss Chris. I'm putting the final layer on the bottom prior to glassing. Mine is the 26' version. Ken Gore in Annopolis built a beautiful 28' version several years ago. Be glad to talk details with you.

what weight cloth?

I'm finishing the hull of Hankinson's Miss Chris (26') and will soon glass the bottom. I'm unsure as to what weight cloth to use. I wonder if 6oz is too light and if 10oz is too heavy?

Miss Chris etc.

The Hankinson boat, Miss Chris, is designed with a raised deck above the engine compartment to allow adequate clearance for almost any engine. While it not designed for twin engines, Ken Gore built a beautiful Miss Chris in the 28' version, powered it with a 454 and gets speeds in the 40s. I'm build...

monel staples?

I've not been able to find bronze, narrow crown staples so now I'm searching for monel. Monel is better than stainless when leaving the staples in the plywood layers of a coldmolded boat. Anyone know of a source for 1/4" crown monel staples?
