Re: Solar powered Amp Eater

Matt and rleete, Thanks for the input. I tried the bench grinder method but was not happy with the results. The bench grinder works wonders on a mower blade but I couldn't get a sharp enough edge on the plane to do well on oak. I may drop by Harbor Freight on the way home. Although I seldom walk out...

Re: Solar powered Amp Eater

Matt, You discussed in another post I read about keeping your plane sharp. I am not getting a razor sharp edge as I would like. How do you sharpen your plane? When I get back next week I have some planing to do and I want to be able to take off nice thin strips instead of chunking off short pieces a...

Re: G-11 Friday Lunch Run to Chattanooga

Melissa and I would love to have a ride to Chattanooga. We enjoy the Big River Grill. Spending time with our fellow boat builders makes it great!

Re: Hello from Chincoteague Island, Virginia!

Hello Seaside, We visited Chincoteague a few years back. We had a good visit (except for the bent prop I got from getting in too shallow of water.) Have you considered a console skiff? It is a 16 ft stitch and glue. Here is a picture of a nice build. Console Skiff.jpg No, I haven't built one of thes...

Re: I will be turning wood into a boat shortly.

I look forward to following your progress. I have thought about building a cabin skiff. It is certainly a design that can go for the long haul. Just take a look at the miles Ray Macke has put on his.(over 25,000 miles) Plus it looks good and will go 30 MPH on 40 hp. I like the stitch and glue method...

Re: Solar powered Amp Eater

Matt, Yes the boys loved toot the horn. I don't know how I missed getting video of that. We will definitely get video on that this weekend. We have quite a group going camping with us at Bledsoe State Park on Old Hickory Lake near Nashville in Tennessee this weekend. Old Hickory is a TVA lake on the...

Re: Solar powered Amp Eater

Solar Panel Expextations I expect that I will be able to cruse at about 5 mph (30 amps) for 6 hours. I expect to draw about 5 amps from the solar panels in good light which will add another hour. Also the solar panels will charge completely dead batteries in 4-or 5 days or top off partially expended...

Today Was Launch Day! WooHoo!! 20170812_100825.jpg See my Launching Ramp post here http://www.glen-l.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=31656 After my initial solo test we all went for a 45 minute cruise up and down the reservoir. A good test for the amp eater with full load - probably close to 800...

Launching Aquatron - Glen-L Amp Eater

Today was Launch Day for the "Aquatron" Amp Eater. I received the plans 23 months ago and now am ready to give it a trial run. The deck is not done but everything else is completed. 20170812_100229.jpg See you tube video here https://youtu.be/HdXtQHOweJc The steering on the Amp Eater eater...

Re: Solar powered Amp Eater

rleete and ensWayne, Yes the horn is big about 15-16" and loud at 130 db. I am sure a 9" or smaller horn at 110 db will be sufficient even though it will be 1/4 as loud. Since I will be mounting the horn above deck I will have to see what looks good. Most of the Piezo horns look like below...

Re: Solar powered Amp Eater

Yesterday I took the boat in for the inspection to obtain the HIN and Register the boat. The Division of Watercraft Officer did say that this was the first electric inboard he had inspected. Of course the main objective is to verify that I indeed built the boat, verify the length by measure and dete...

Re: Solar powered Amp Eater

I, will run it through some testing this coming Saturday to make sure everything is functioning well before installing the deck. Once the deck is on things in the aft end will be difficult to get to. Once the deck goes on the batteries will have to be removed to get to the back and there will not be...
