Carl,
Just wondering, why not laminate the chines? For chines and sheers in 3 layers i think it took me about 3 evenings. A lot less tension and maybe even an improvement in strength...

Re: Seattle Barrelback progress
Vacuumbagging isn't difficult once you are on the right track.
I used to work as a design-engineer for a german company that builds vacuumsystems, if i can be of any help i'd be glad to answer any questions.
Since i'm on the second layer i can take pictures if needed.
grts,
Joris

Re: Adapting an engine to a trans
That said, one builder has used a Jag V-12 and managed to build a water jacket around the manifold. I have not yet built the manifold but I am about to start the outer casing will have to be put on in two parts but here is a couple of pics of what I intend to do. I want to make it out of rolled 316...

Re: Do I need a router to build boats?
chubs,
I bought the "boatbuilding with plywood" and for me (a first time boatbuilder) is has been a huge help.
Not sure about the router, maybe someone that finished his boat can answer that. I've been using a handheld until now, it does the job.

I'm using the 81P with 3/8" staples on 4mm Okoume. No problems so far.

Re: Tahoe 20 - New Zealand Progress
Dave; I'm planning on playing around with forming my own aluminum rubrail out of 1/8" flatbar. Haven't tried it yet but think I can form a slight concave roll with a 10' brake ( not a hand brake but a heavy duty hydraaulic unit) then put it upside down thru the planer to flatten the backside. Then ...

Re: Baby Steps.
My book just arrived last week with my second load of epoxy. (with a nice greeting card from Gayle which just shows how great Glen-L is, it's not just about the great products!) Reading for two days i have to say honestly that i should have ordered it when is started building. The information it con...

Re: Barrel Back Build
I used frog-plates, not sure what the correct english name for these is but that's what we call them. The reason i use these is that i build my form from two left-over steel frames and two laminated beams i ripped from a old gym-hall (read; it was for free  ) Also is is very easy to release th...

Graig,
What are the advantages of that set-up? Just curious, trying to fit all pieces together here too
Thanks,
Joris

Re: Bonanza question
This made me think about an idea i had a while back; Has anyone ever tried to fit an engine in the middle and connect it with a long shaft to a Alpha outdrive? Apart from the obvious problems (finding balance, the long driveshaft beeing in the way all the time) this looked like a...well, "idea" at t...
