I am considering building the 17 foot Whitehall.

Has anyone built one in lapstrake instead of cedar strips? If so, what adjustments to the plans, etc..

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Hi Scott. Sorry, this is not an answer to your question, but, you can't go wrong with the Glen-L Whitehall. I finished mine last year, and have enjoyed both the build and the pleasure of rowing the Whitehall. Here is a link to photos of my build. http://gallery.me.com/sveninga/100367

That's a beautiful boat, Howard!

I really like the stem. I noticed that nearly everyone has used a stem that was flush with the deck, but I like stems which extend a few inches above, and have a square cross-section at the top 8 or 9 inches.

I have decided the next boat will be a Whitehall, I currently have the plans for the Azulykit, the Whitehall in the collection at Mystic Seaport, but like the additional 2 feet of the Glen L design, and the third rowing position.

I will hopefully be starting soon.

Howard,

I believe it was your boat that has a bronze bow eye. I haven't had any luck in locating one. Do you recall where you got it? I might have to get the chrome plated bronze Glen-L bow eye, then strip the chrome and polish the bronze.

Hamilton Marine in Maine has bronze bow eyes. But, I'll bet Gayle could come up with one.

Scott,

I purchased mine from Jamestown Distributers in Rhode Island. BUC-00BE400 BOW EYE PLAIN 4" . The price was $22.43

Thanks for the confidence Bill, but the only one we have is the chromed bronze one...

Finish pics will be posted soon. Still need to do the oarlock pads and final coat of varnish on inwales and rubrails.
