I have come across a ''canoe-kayak" website where some of the builders have substituted the plywood for 3/4'' cedar strips, This is a good idea, for those who can not get marine ply. without paying high shipping costs...A few examples of gluing up 1/4''thick cedar strips into flat panels:

Steve - I never considered making panels out of the strips first. I just applied my strips one at a time.

However, I had the "pleasure" of building 2 boat bookshelfs recently. I build the sides out of cedar strips. Made them into panels first. It was so much easier.

But in some of curve areas of some kayak or canoe builds I can still see that the piece by piece method is the only way.

Great idea to pass along.

Ok here are some panels made up from cedar strips for my latest S&G boat.

The deck panels were glued up then sanded through the drum sander and then I glases the back side...
