After leaving the Hemingway home, we walked through a residential area to a monument of the most Southern point in the US.

At this point our feet were starting to get tired, so we decided to call it a day and catch the bus back to the boat. We plan to go to Key West again before we leave the Keys.

Yes, we saw the urinal outside. His wife had decorated the outside of it so her friends maybe wouldn't figure out what it actually was. There was also a penny in the cement by the pool. The story of the penny is Mrs. Hemingway spent $20,000+ having the pool installed when he was gone and when he got back home, he was very upset she spent so much money on the pool. He then gave her a penny and said you might as well spend my last cent!

We went back to Key West on Wednesday to look at a few things that we had missed on the previous trips. With the bus fare only $1.00 each for the bus trip to Key West, the only downside for using the bus is that it takes 1 1/2 hrs. for the 50 mile trip. The manatee was back at the boat again when we left, but it looked like a different manatee since it looked smaller.

We looked up the original location for Sloppy Joe's where Hemingway hung out.

Capt. Tony's Saloon has one dollar bills hanging from the walls and ceiling. It was at this bar where Jimmy Buffett mastered his Key West sound.

We had went to Key West with Joe and Robin from the boat, Sea Lord, which is also traveling on the Great Loop. The girls had fun shopping all day while Joe and I snacked on two half pound cookies from one of the local shops. Eventually, we made our way to the lighthouse on Key West.

There was a museum at the lighthouse with the history of the lighthouse and displays. This museum was in the light house keepers old residence house.

The lighthouse was open to climb the 88 steps to the top so Joe and I climbed to the top while the girls took pictures from below.

Also in the museum, there was a model of the Sombrero Key lighthouse that is located offshore of Vaca Key in Marathon.

From the top of the lighthouse, we could see back to the docks at the North end of Duval Street where a Disney cruise ship was docked. Key west is popular stop for cruise ships.

It has been hot here in the Keys(80+) everyday, so I think we will start heading slowly back North looking for cooler temps. Whoever would have thought, I would be looking for cooler weather in February!!

can't wait until you're up in the "Dismal Swamp". I wouldn't mind getting lost in there. :D

It was time to say good bye to the Keys so we headed out of Marathon on Feb.14th and headed North back up the West coast of Florida. We had 87 miles to cover as I wanted to get to Everglades City in one day and not stop and anchor out with the bugs along the Everglades. We pulled into the Rod and Gun Club lodge wall dock at Everglades City at sundown where we planned on staying for two nights. The lodge was built in the 1920's as a private fishing and hunting club for the rich and famous. Over the years, five presidents have visited the lodge along with movie stars. The inside looks like an era gone bye with stuffed animals and fish lining the walls.

Once inside the door, you step back in time. They don't take credit cards as the cash register is not linked to the internet.

We had supper at the club with the another couple on the Great Loop. Noreen had a drink off the happy hour drink menu. Guess which one she chose? Hint, the waitress said it was their most popular drink.

After two nights, we moved on North heading for the Naples city dock. We took the inside route from Goodland to Naples and not going out into the Gulf. The channel markers all had birds nests.

We arrived at the Naples city dock early enough to see the charter fishing boats unload their fish. The charter boat captains clean the fish that were caught by their customers.
