Give it one year.

The canopy is now open which allows sunlight to penetrate the forest floor creating first generation growth. First generation growth is superior to a mature forest for both food source and security. The wildlife population will explode.

In other words, the understory trees, shrubs and grasses can now grow where they could not before because of the shade of the forest trees. This creates more food and more security. More rabbits, more deer, more birds. More fun.

Give it a year.

Recall what happened to Yellowstone after the fires killed the forest. The wildlife population exploded with all the new growth.

You have been blessed.

Yes sir, that sux!

It is hunting season again!!! I harvested a doe last week and saw a 4 1/2 year old 8 that would go 125 or so. It's looking good for momma. It's her time this year! I set up two feeders on the pipe line close to one of my tanks I have on my place. They just clear cut some land that's just north of my farm so it's gunna push some more deer our way. The hawgs have been visiting my tanks on a frequent basis!!! The lil pines around the tanks have mud rubs at the base of everyone of them!!! lol

Like Dave says, give it a year. It would be better if they would burn it now. The new growth would really take off!!!

 actually logging areas help wild life as long as they don't clear cut the area. and if they pile the tree tops it makes places for smaller animals to live also opening up the area also helps food grow for all of them. the game do leave while the cutting is being done but they will return shortly. my property in Ohio has had the timber cut twice in 20 years and the game is plentiful.

Its certainly hard to look at, but like others have said in time nature fills the gap. In my nic of the woods they do a lot of selective logging and you'd never know it a few years later. Bush fires tend to do a lot more damage but we all know that is just natures way of making room for the new growth.

In north america, logging has matured quite a bit and companies are much more in tune with nature. Its been a long time since I've heard of 'desctructive' logging issues in our area.

But if its your back yard... ya.. the first time you see it can be shocking and frustrating.

Ok guys I sure hope you are right! I am going to follow your lead and go start a forest fire in the wilderness. I can't find an Elk to save my life, maybe that will make it better for me next year!

I saw a documentary about Mt. St. Helens a while back showing the before & after & current photos and it was amazing how nature rebuilds itself. Even the lakes that where otherwise too (cannot remember acidic or alkaline) toxic for marine life afterwards is repairing itself and they found a few fish actually survived!

Now, I wouldn't go tell someone to start a forest fire or chop down every tree they can. But even if they did... nature will probably outlast us all.
