Hello, im a graphic designer and have to make signs of the different work areas involved in a boat building factory, this info is not easy to find on the internet so im trying with the professionals (you) to see if I can get some help, the signs im making are like road signs but only with images no typography involved, I would appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Well, we're mostly amateur boat builders here. :D

Anyway, I think it would really depend on the type of boat factory.
But some of the areas could be:
design/blueprinting
woodwork (actually cutting out the parts)
assembly
fiberglassing
finishing

Just curious, is this for some kind of school project or something?

yes it is, easy stuff would be to show where the parking, administration, bathroom, etc.
for example the area where the boat is build when its mounted in (idk what its called) and then taken down "the ramp"

Now that's funny fergal!!!!

Well, each shop is going to be laid out differently and with different facilities. Some with lifting cranes and a launch slip, some with a launching ramp, some with building forms, some with building stations....lot's of variables. You really have to develop an understanding of a particular boatsmith's work processes.

In my case (hitchhiking on fergal's humor) I have the junk all area, tools pile, wood scraps, boat area, beer can pile, and kid's toys area.

Might do a websearch for boat builders and then decide if you are going to focus on wooden, aluminum/steel, or fiberglass constructed boats.

We had a small shop that was in three buildings plus outside, but here are the basic areas by build category for small fiberglass outboards

1.office
2.parts storage dept
3.wood shop
4.laminating shop
5.grinding area (outside)
6.hoist (to pull hulls & decks from molds)
7.hull assembly (install hardware)
8.deck assembly (install hardware)
9.hull/deck assemble & rubrail (put them together)
10.interior/upholstery
11.buff,finish and repair
12.shipping/loading area on trucks (outside)

Looks like Pirate laid it out pretty well. But if you want to read through this site, there are a few little nuggets of info about the old Yellow Jacket Boat factory in TX. Just go to the section on Factory Assembly Drawings & Concept Drawings. It is mostly historical stuff with pictures of the buildings in their current state, but there are descriptions of those individual buildings and what they were used for in the process.

You forgot the ever pervasive "sanding cloud" area, the dimensions of which are known only to Fairies and Goblins.

I think Upspirate pretty well covered it, but I'm wondering how one would possibly convert all these areas into graphic ( pictures only ) signs as planned.
Good Luck

Check out some of the books on the growth of the Chris Craft company. There are a lot of pictures of the factory.
