Hey,
I am getting ready to flip Dragon Fly, a 17' garvey. Built it with heavy deck so its a bear to move. I need to flip it in the barn where she is. Any ideas? I have seen a few u tubes, and some guys go to a lot of trouble..... thanks

Its hard to believe that with the help of several buddies and even a line or two cannot flip the boat ove on even rubber tires with a protected blanket or like cover.. I think it would be helpfull if we could see the location of the boat hull as it exists. The most common way to roll most bigger boats over from the bottom up to upright is a wooden wheel which is a lot of added work and effort that I don't think is necessary here.

I think with a heavier hull, you pretty well have to go with mechanical means..either a lift truck, crane, or as I did, several chain hoists. Ay least this is reasonably safe.
When we flipped the Titan hull, we added an extension outwards from the building form so that the hull wouldn't hit the floor, restrained it with ropes, and laid it on an old ( at least it is now  ) mattress while we relocated the grip.
All went well.

I see a dolly setup across the transom region in your future. Then take a floor jack

or simular wheeled mechanism under and even temporarily connected to the center plank thats showing and pull it completely out to the driveway location before you flip, unless of course the hull is managable with several armstrong "chainfalls".

I am considering a gantry. If I use slings and strap so I pull off one rail and get the boat up on its side, do you think I can control it and bring it over? Here is a gantry I am considering buying[img]

The beam set up is little different, not sure if I can get a good purchase with this? Maybe better off with standard I-beam and chain hoist.
But, like I asked at first, can I flip it with a gantry if I lift from the side of the boat?

Here's what I plan on using:
http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-fold ... 35915.html

I actually got that for mounting the motor, but I think it could work for the flip. I plan on using it with a web sling somewhere near the center of balance, then a couple people fore and aft to help control the flip. We'll see...

You also mentioned i-beam/chain hoist. I like that idea even better, assuming you have the beams to mount them to. That's what I was thinking of originally, but didn't trust the joists in the ceiling of my garage. The thought of destroying my boat, ceiling, and floor above, all in one shot, made me think better of it.

Not sure how well the gantry will work. Looks like it would be awkward to secure the boat to the gantry.
