Hi All,
I have my fuel tank mounted under the front deck in an outboard Malahini. I don't like being able to see it so I'm going to install a bulkhead this week. The bulkhead will only be about 14" tall and there will be a gap that is several inches between the top of the bulkhead and the bottom of the deck. Even with a sealed plastic fuel tank, I can still smell gasoline. I've been told by others they experience the same thing. I bought a bilge blower last year and think I may install it. My question:
Should I install it with fresh air blowing in or sucking out the bad air? I bought nice ss clamshell vents last year, but I am not going to install them. I just don't want to cut any more holes in the deck. I have some ss louvered vents that I want to insert into the bulkhead. If I blow fresh air in, it will probably blow the fumes out the top gap and the other louvered vent OR if I suck the fumes out, the same scenario occurs but only through one vent mounted in the bulkhead. So is there any opinion on which is better? Remember, the bulkhead is not airtight and it will have a gap at the top. It's only purpose is to hide the fuel tank. There are two electrical connections up there:
1. the connection to the fuel tank sender
2. the deck nav light
So there is potential for a spark.

It is a bilge sucker! Place the intake as low as possible. Gas fumes are heavier than air. Suck them out!

Thanks Bill, that is what I did. I did a search for bilge blower installation and the diagrams showed the air moving outward. I had already planned to mount it down low.
