I've never owned or operated or hooked up an outboard motor that had a seperate fuel tank before.

The engine I have is a 1989 2 stroke Mariner, basically a Mercury hookup.

The tank I have is a 18gal Moeller plastic tank.

Is there a special cable or adapter I need to get? Merc/Mariner seems to have a special connector on the outboard for the fuel line that does not match up to what I see on my Moeller tank.

Also, I assume I need a squeeze bulb to prime the line right? I'd like the bulb to be in my motorwheel where its easier to reach, is there any problems with that?

On my merc fuel line I have one of these I also put an inline filter between the tank and the bulb that I have in the motor well.

My engine just had a fuel line with a barb. I ran the fuel line from the tank, which is under the bow, to the stern. I added a bulb and then a water separation filter which is attached to one of the extra large knees I installed. I placed my bulb between the tank and the filter just before the filter. I'm not sure how others have done it, but that works for my situation. I have never even touched the bulb. I assume the guys who programmed the E-TEC engine last year probably primed it.

I use the same connector fergal pictured for the connection at the motor. Yes, put the bulb in an easy to access place where it wont get kinked when the motor is turned for steering.

Thanks everyone. I found the right cable/adapter yesterday.

I got a Mercury fuel line, with both of those 'quick' connector ends.

Then I found a Moeller to Mecury adapter to thread onto the tank outlet.

I should be testing my motor tomorrow!
