The older I get the tougher it is to learn these things.
I use MS Paint for making notes on Photos.

But when I want to Highlight some part of a boat etc, with the Translucent Stick drawing, and show the Subject in Nice Visible lines, it takes a program with Layers or Pixel Editing.

So which do you folks use?

for 3d drawing I use and train people in Google SketchUp. It is free online and if you do the online tutorials you can learn it yourself.

Best Regards

GSKU is certainly an interesting and capable product.
I've used it.
Sometimes it does things I never expected it to do. Extra lines and opposing loops etc.
I'd ask questions on the forum and couldn't understand the answers.
I never figured out how to import a photo and do some changing on that.
Other simple things like 'filling in a wall' with studs baffled me. Maybe my soup is a bit too thick for SU?
So I gave up on that one.

Too bad we are not closer.

It is tricky, It is better at doing an overlay of a photo but it is really in depth..I really haven't gone there with SU. There is a tutorial on studs online. The nice thing about SU is that there are a ton of videos out there to help you learn it. I am looking into having my patterns laser cut and if it works out I may be able to get the .dxf files so I can consider drawing my boat in sketchup...

Autocad for drawings, Maya, usually imported into Rhino for models.

SU is frustratingly simple. So many times I just wish it had some feature I wanted, but found it lacking. Sometimes it just acts bizarre. Might be fine for drawing up a blanket box for aunt edith, but totally inadequate for much beyond that task

In the end when they all make me crazy, I have this really nice ancient Vemco V-track machine, a detail arm and a drawer full of scales, triangles, templates, and pencils. - they always work best, I can concentrate on my idea, not which icon I need, what workplane is active, or why half my drawing just became invisible.

Caber I had one of those drawing setups when I was a young'n and nearly took me into Architectural drawing for a living.
I'm an amateur Caber so I cannot afford to buy one of those fancy Graphics programs. I'll have to stick with the free programs.

The problem (for me) with most, if not all, of those YouTube Vids is the lack of editing before they post. Most are a horrible waste of time with so little of the Vid used in Edu on the subject.

That is one thing, the other is my narrow time range I get for downloads.
So a long vid full of time wasting is just aggravating beyond description.

I like SU very much.
What I dislike is those treacherous 'things' it does on it's own. You cannot find them in the HELP files and the forum does not always answer in the same day or sometimes Week.

I'll look up that Studs Vid because I needed that to make up my new back porch.

I tried drawing up a new Hot Water heating system for my Wash House, Those spurious lines attacked my sanity.
I had to quit or do some serious damage to the wall with my foot.
