Storm Warning

Post by leakcheck » Mon Oct 29, 2012 6:56 am

My thoughts and prayers go out to you folks on the east coast. Remember that "stuff" can be replaced, but lives cannot. Keep yourself and your family safe, and we will see you when the sun comes out...

Well, made it through with only one tree in my pool. No power or cell service. Many people much worse off than me. Will go around and see who I can help.

Doc

Southern Co. has 1800+ Hurricane Pros already there. These guys KNOW how to get the power on! Your power company people came here for Ivan & Katrina. Sounds like they have another miracle recovery to pull off.

Good Luck!

The replica ship HMS Bounty went down. Anybody know the scoop on that?
Seems as if the captain decided it was safer to go out than to remain in port.

The Bounty was trying to run from the storm, headed south. It got rougher than they anticipated. Then the lost all power. I'm sure they weren't under sail. But motoring grossly under powered for the conditions.

That seemed to be a weird storm.
I was reading the forecasts on it, and the winds were not all that great as far as hurricanes go, barely 65kts.
However, I looked at some buoy data, and there was extreme seas way, way, way out from the center.
Perhaps the winds were not really high speed, but they reached far out.

I looked at the bouys also. They had 20 footer at the mouth of NY harbor. Off OBX there were 30+ foot waves. SH!! NOT ME!

Where is OBX??
Have you ever got on top of a wave and rode it? Get on top like a surfboard rider?
Then glance at the GPS??
Waves like that can run 18mph,,,,,,,,, easily. Been there, done that ! ! !

Everybody knows that water seeks its own level,,,,,,,BUT,,,,,,waves like that don't merely seek their level,, they are traveling 20mph.,, and as they come into shallower depths they rise up higher.

Still no power or heat. Telling me maybe Thursday of Friday. Trees keep coming down. Areas that had power restored have lost it again. Now predicting 6 inches of snow on Wednesday with high wind, sure that won't help. Getting tired of eating candle light dinners and sleeping in front of the fire place.

Doc

Sorry they don't have you yet! We have 2400 people up there to help. they have a way of setting priorities. You must live out in a low density area. They get the health and safety, then the population density.

Best of luck,
