Door County Classic Boat Festival

Post by Roberta »

Had a great time at the show. Here are some pictures of the Sikaflex Challenge where teams make a boat using tie wraps, Sikaflex, plywood, and what ever.

The Glen L Torpedo won Best Inboard.

No, but it looked like fun.

Later in the evening there was a Venitian boat parade and fireworks. Lousy pictures but I tried.

Here is a shot of the Torpedo heading back into the Sturgeon Bay canal and going back to Sturgeon Bay. A group of about 15 boats made a trip out to Green Bay heading west from Sturgeon Bay on Friday. It was a bit windy with some pretty good size swells and rollers. The wind was NW and I caught most of the water over the bow (protecting Rich, )but the water and weather were pretty warm in Sturgeon bay. We were heading out to a lighthouse on Green Bay, but turned back about a quarter mile short. I was getting so much spray it was getting difficult to see. So we all headed back east towards Lake Michigan. I was pretty soaked, so heading east was much better. We stopped for lunch at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club.

After lunch we continued east. There was an area in the Bay, before entering the man made canal out to Lake Michigan, were we could stretch the Torpedo's legs. Several of us were really cooking. Once in the canal it was no wake again. East of the yacht club the water was friendlier and we had a lot of fun. Lake Michigan was very rough so we did not venture further than the lighthouses on the east end. Here is a pic of the lighthouses.

We hope to go back to this event next year.

Looks like another good weekend for you and the Torpedo!
It's great to see someone using their completed boat... helps push someone like me that hasn't begun a build yet to get at it!
