Whitmore Lake Classic Boat Show

Post by JimmY » Fri May 31, 2019 9:29 am

Hi All,

I heard about this classic boat event on Friday June 7th on Whitmore Lake, MI from 7pm to 9pm:

https://www.whmi.com/news/article/whitm ... -show-2019

This is the first year for this event, and they plan on having the boats parade past the viewing areas and have an announcer to talk about the boats. I'm planning on hauling my Squirt over there to participate. Whitmore Lake is right off US-23 between Ann Arbor and Brighton. If there are any Glen L builders in the area, consider bringing your boat over and maybe I can buy you a beer afterwards.

There is a contact email address in the article above, and they asked for some background material about my boat (year, make, model) and I made sure to plug Glen L.

I'd like to come, but it's so far away. Maybe if I came you'd buy me two beers?

Gayle better stock up on the Squirt plans because I expect after you ride by there will be a big rush on them.

BTW, I've got a couple old Johnson's that I'm ready to begin restoring and have been doing a lot of reading on the AOMCI forum and enjoyed reading about your rebuild of the Johnson 18hp.

Have fun at the parade!

Jeff, if you show up I'll buy you a case of beer!

P.S. if you have any questions on restoring your motors, give me call. Also, Dan on the AOMCI site has a lot of new old stock parts and is a great resource. Mine is running fine this year and I finished off the first tank of gas last night. Best part is my tool kit consists of some plyers, an adjustable wrench, and a screwdriver.

Hi All,

I participated in the 1st Annual Whitmore Lake Classic Boat Show last night. The lake was pretty choppy, but we all had fun and there were 22 boats on the water and a few on land. There was a viewing area on land, and a lot of local residents we anchored offshore, so we spent a lot of time weaving in and out of traffic. I got a lot of comments on my Squirt which fit right in with the big boys. Each boat was paraded in front of the crowd while the announcer talked about the boat. Glen-L got a nice plug.

Here are some photos...

Chris Craft Kit Boat
This is a 1940s Chris Craft kit boat that the owner restored. He had to replace 100s of steel fasteners on the bottom.

Long Star Diablo
This is an all aluminum Lone Star Diablo built in Text after WWII with surplus aluminum. Look for the owner to pop up here, as he has an old Mercury outboard and has plans to build a boat for it.

Not sure on the boat, but that is 6 cylinder Mercury outboard powering it!

My Tyme
This guy put on a real show in front of the crowd. Someone said the owner was in his 90's and he was doing some "high speed turns" close to shore.

A little choppy
It was a nice night on the water, I was able to talk to a few of the other boaters and make a few friends.

Sorry I missed it, but at least you saved a few bucks on beer. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Looks like lots of fun! The black and white photo looks like a period promo shot for the sales brochure! Certainly should be framed and hung on the wall of Fame.
