I'm looking at some of you plans and saw you have full-size patterns. Are these paper patterns?

I've heard from other designers that they won't offer full-size patterns because paper can shrink. Think this is true?

Pros and cons of paper patterns?

Well, I'm not going to say that it doesn't happen, but I've sure never heard of paper shrinking.

Take a look at this thread and go down to my post. Using the info there, you could take some measurements and, using a flexibel batten, verify if your paper patterns have shrunk:

jem - - Good points by Dave. I have build one Glen-L boat and am in the process of building the second (Thunderbolt) from their full size plans. The frames, stem, breasthook and transom are the main members on the plans. The rest is just dimensional instructions. I've had no problems. I do not believe paper shrinks - - can get a lot of irritating folds, etc. In fact. I use a steam iron to smooth out the folds in the paper, full size plans before I begin tracing. I strongly recommend reviewing and studing the plans along with the instructions over and over. A lot goes over my head the first couple of times I go over the plans and instructions. Eventually (I'm a slow learner) things start to fall in place and the key dimensions become apparent. I can assure you that tracing from a full size plan is much easier than transferring measurements, curves and angles from a diagram, irrespective of how much information is on the diagram.

If you haven't worked with patterns do some research. Paper patterns work fine, but they can be tricky, you have half a pattern and are flipping them over from a center line. Small mistakes can get big, doing this.
