Does anyone here have any experience with those copper boat nails and roves? I was wondering how well the hold and does a rove have to be used on both ends of the nail? I think they call them Rosehead boat nails.

The rove only goes on the the inside. They hold very will, once in place the only way to remove them is to grind off the inside so that the rove comes off and even then the still need to be pulled or punched out. They may be installed flush with the outer pland or most times the outer plank has a counter sunk hole a little larger then the diameter of the head which you plug. Drill a hole for the shank that is smaller then it's diameter. Drive it in just like a nail. One person inside sets the rove and cuts off the protruding end leaving enough to peen over. A person on the outside holds a metal buck against the head as the inside person peens over that end. In the process of peening that shaft develops a slight bend which adds to the holding power.
