Numerous times there are conversations about stapling layers of wood and dealing with removing staples. Some may be aware of the alternative plastic staples thats avaliable, but I would like to leave this as a topic for the search feature which may help some in the future. Numerous large hulls are using the method with a great success rate. These are called Raptor staples. You can just sand them smoothe and leave them if you wish under all top layers doing away with the hours of removing metal ones normally used when not using the vacumn bag methods.

This site has it all including rolling a hull by a few hands and well worth some wandering about if you are looking for something to do while being hunkered down inside. 8)

I know this is a little late, but just read your post about the Raptor Staples. I am using them thanks to Dave Lott telling me about them. I have modified a very inexpensive Harbor Frieght Staple gun to accept the Raptor Staples. I have used about 3,000 staples so far and no real problems. Paid about 25 bucks for the gun. If any one is interested I will tell you how to accomplish the mod. I realize that nobody is going to read this since it is six months old. I don't get out much.

Great to hear about your modification as there are several new members in the process of starting some hulls. But

I am very close to planking and would like to hear how to modify a cheap stapler... :D

Anyone "Down Under", here is a site that stocks them:

Bob - Great to hear from you. I was beginning to wonder if you were still at it.

Give us an update on the Barrelback please

I purchased a Central Pneumatic 1/2" Crown air Stapler from Harbor Freight. If you are not familiar with this firm just google it and you will get to their web page. If you order something from them you will get catalogs for LIFE  The stapler is made to accept 1/2" crown metal staples. I tried to insert Raptor Staples and found that they would not fit in the magazine. Actually they will fit but you can not push it back into place for stapling. I removed the Magazine from the gun. I then put a grinding stone in my drill press as shown in the pic. Then I put the magazine on a small block of wood to support it square to the rotating grinding stone. Turn drill press on to a high rpm and slide the magazine back and forth against the stone. Do this to both sides and remove enough material from both sides so the Raptor staples will slide freely when placed over the magazine. If you have a micrometer or callipers it will make this modification accurate and simple. If not just remove small amounts of metal from the sides until you achieve the proper fit. I found that I can still use standard metal staples as well as the Raptor Polymer staples. Hope this works for you. I just love it when I can beat the system and save
