I’m a new boatbuilder getting ready to finish my Glen-L 16, and I’m looking for help picking a good paint system. The boat will be mostly trailered, but might spend a few weeks in the water in summer. The exterior (deck, sides, bottom) is bonded with fiberglass & epoxy.

I’ve looked into some one-part paints, namely supermarine and interlux brightsides. The two-part interlux perfection or supermarine revolution is also an option.

Is there a big difference between one-part and two-part paints in terms of quality? (One-part seems a lot easier to use and store)? Do I need a special bottom paint plus a topsides paint? Any advice on specific brands or varieties?

Also, following advice I got here, I painted the inside of the boat with an inexpensive two-part epoxy garage floor finish by quickrete. It seems to have worked fine. Could that paint be used as a primer for the paints listed above?

Thanks for your help!

If you plan to keep the boat in the water a week at a time you should plan on using a bottom specific paint. Topside paint starts to blister and bubble if left in the water that long repeatedly.
Having used both brands you speak of myself now, you wont be dissapointed with the Interlux products. Two part isnt really that much more work than one part. Since you often need to measure proper amounts of thinner to most of the one part paints, they arent really ready to use straight from the can either.
I would not use the quickrete for a primer, its nothing like the high build, easily sanded primer that your paint system will offer and youll be guaranteed a good bond using the suggested products.
