We have talked extensively about using CPES to seal oil based stains before applying epoxy over them. I had a conversation with a veteran of wood finishes. He stated that the standard for creating a barrier between incompatible finishes is Shellac. Goes on thin and dries very fast.

Has anyone else heard this?

Some guitar builders do that as well, may even use it as a build coat. I personally use bullseye sanding sealer, and it works well for that purpose.

I don't know the answer, but these products are used under FINISHES....When used under epoxy and cloth, it becomes more of a structural issue.

I wonder if the bond would be sufficient for structural use

Tests are in order!!!
