All seems to be good now with Epifanes over the epoxy. The trick was letting the epoxy fully cure (2 weeks) I also found this thread on the same issue.

That squares with my experience. I used Epifanes over epoxy (Glen-L Poxy-Shield) with no problems. In my case as well, the epoxy had had at least 2 weeks to cure prior to my applying the varnish.
