Bilge Paint ?

It is time to bilge paint - but I would rather not! I've already encapsulated with three coats of epoxy.

Is bilge paint really necessary?

I see some paint the engine bay, others paint everything. What needs it and what can I skip?

For those who've bilge painted, would you do it again?

For those that didn't paint their bilge, regrets?

And the instructions - sand everything, wash everything, multiple coats...on your hands and knees...while wearing a gas mask. Really?

Thanks,

Tom

I did not use any bilge paint. Epoxy should be sufficient on its own. You, of course, will want UV protection anywhere that will be exposed to the sun. If there is any problem with the clear epoxy coating a visual inspection will quickly reveal it. Then it will be simple to just sand and re-coat.

I did not paint the bilge. The bilge is not exposed to the UV sun anyway,
no regrets for me.

I painted the bilge, white Interlux Bilgekote over primer and 3 coats epoxy. No regrets, some extra time but I like the clean look and any leaks or other mischief are easy to spot. I think it's ok not to paint where UV is not an issue as pointed out by Matt and Ken.

Steve
