Touching up stained areas.

Repairing a damaged area that has been stained presents a special problem. The stain won't take on a finished surface. I was fixing a coverboard that had been stained with dark walnut stain.

I tried spraying the original stain that I used and that worked pretty good. Then I remembered my duck decoy painting technique.
I used acrylic water based paint sprayed with an airbrush. Burnt sienna mixed with black is pretty close the the dark grain patterns on the sapele.
The acrylic paint dries almost instantly, and you can wipe of with water if you are not happy with the results. I then sprayed varnish over the painted surface.

Below is a brand of the paint that I used.
