Has anyone done this? I have a 2yr old 28lb thrust minkota I put on
my 17' canoe . I cut the back off to make it flat for a motor, works great.
Only a pain to keep reaching behind for the tiller.

In the remote setup I still need to tilt the motor up for shallow water( the ozark streames).
Maby a cable system I have some extra sterring cable from jet skis.

I could maby take the motor controll head off and lengthen the wires and move it up for remote speed and reverse. And use the cable for sterring with a foot controll.

I'm working on a modified D-4 pram right now, and I'm using a Minnkota electric trolling motor. I mounted the motor on the stern, but removed the control head. I mounted the control under the seat, to the right side. For steering, I made a small wood spoke wheel attached to a drum and am using a good quality 1/8" diameter nylon rope running back through pullies. The rope is attached to the motor via a steering arm I fashioned out of mahogany. There's not much weight to move with a trolling motor, so the nylon rope works well. I started out using 1/8" wire rope, but that was just too stiff for this application.

I'll try and add some pics.

Rich you're photos don't come up on the link, says album not found.
The reason I wanted a foot steering controll was to free up my fishing hands.
With the rope idea you have to keep the motor in same position to keep tension on the rope?

hello, hey guys I used an old trottle cable for the remote steering on my pirouqe. I would push to turn right and pull to turn left, alremove the steering head and switch and mounted the switch in a waterproff box.

Have a look at the steering controls for the rudder on a kayak. You use your feet for this. Just need to manufacture something to fit on the motor.

Well it's been a while but I finally am making the attempt.
With old linkage and parts from jet ski cable the tilting of the motor in shallow water won't bind the steering.

The wood dowel setup needs improvement...but it works.
Next the wiring....and mabe a way to pivot the motor up for shallow water.

More time on my hands .....so ..one line is the catch release the other with the double pulley's is attached to the foot pedal to lift the trolling motor in shallow water....

Boy I like that idea of taking the handle off and making it the "Console" drive center.

I had a design making an outboard of the bottom part of the TM.
I was going to cap the shaft, and clamp it into a Gimble out side the transom. Water proof.

Lifting it was a 12V Reversible motor using a cable or link.
Steering was also a 12V reversible motor using a spring threading through a 'nut' on the end of a link attached to the shaft of the TM.
I had the idea to use a Gimble arrangement with four Heavy duty toggle switches to steer, and power the motor.
Your idea is much simpler for power and Reversing.

Got rid of the blocks of wood and redid the steering mechanism. The steel shaft with the bar welded to it was scabaged from an old riding mower. The aluminum block clamped between the two angle pcs. has needle bearings in it. I got that at a go-cart shop back in 06 when I was working on my jet powered TNT. The pcs. slid over the 5/8 shaft I still need to get milled down to 1 1/8'' typical of Minn Kota motors.

Well it worked great.
My dog is under the shade.
