I've been looking at a project that has a potential for Electric Drive, but after reviewing the prices for components online, I'm wondering if the purchase of an older golf cart that for, whatever reason, can be had cheaply. Some of the motor prices aren't too awful, but when you add the controllers and harnesses the price does seem to take an upward hike.

I know the feeling. I've got the local golf cart repair folks looking for a decent motor/controller combo. It seemed like the best way to solve it. Also, ebay has had a number of eTek clones (MARS) so that looks promising also.

My only issue has been finding enough hp. Lots of 4hp motors, but I need something in the 10hp range.

Thanks

One thing I can see using a golf cart motor if it is in a enclose hull/bildge is the curculation of cool air to cool the motor most marine electric drives have water cooling.

hope this helps

A good point. I was toying with the idea of using the outboards impeller assembly to pump cool water up and out, or even using a tap from the bait well. I could easily see things overheating at full throttle.
Thanks
