Currently doing the deck framing on my barrelback19. How have others done their dashboard frame so that the ends of the deck framing does not show, or a bunch of screws if I was to butt it up against the deck framing?

I made a plywood duplicate of my dash frame and glued and screwed it in place. I then glued(epoxied) the finish dash to the plywood and clamped it rather than put any screws in it. Some of the builders have made their dash removable but my plans did not allow for that. I dont have a good picture of it.

Maybe it will be done by G6 and maybe not.

But not far, actually this forum and all the replies have made this so much more
enjoyable.

Remember the dash is structual because you have the helm affixed to it and you hold onto it when underway. But there are ways to make the dash removable and structual. Personally I have used hex head bolts with wing nuts and lock washers with no issues at the ends, fitting the dash under the covering boards. Servicing and even wiring all the bits and pieces can be a chore when you get things completely closed up. So if at this point you can recreate a removable dash, I would say go for it. Just glue a small block at the points where the hardware is positioned.

csaggio

I built a frame around the top edge of the cockpit, then added a piece of half round over the edge of the deck planking.

You could do it much like Chris Craft did, they put a piece across from carlin to carlin, with notches to catch the ends of the deck battens. Much like the piece across the top edge of your transom which has the notches for the rear deck battens. The dash is then screwed/attached to the notched piece and bunged if the screws will not be covered by a half-round crash pad. I will try to find pictures of the Chris Craft restoration saw this on, and post them if I can...
