Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has recently or is currently building the "Chinook" 201/2 foot design by Ken Hankinson. I am about to start one and would love to hear from you if you have advice or pictures for this boat. I am a little concerned about the amount of height from the deck to the rail as the study plans show only 24 inches which seems very low. I guess this is required to have the self bailing deck, and could be fixed by simply adding a stainless steel rail around the deck, but I would really like to hear from a builder or better still a current user of the boat as designed to see if the rear height is ok at 24'.
Thanks.

I'm getting the material around for the design. Haven't started on it yet tho. I have a donor boat with a 170 Mercruiser I/O for it.

Woody48 built one and has been using it for 3 years. Perhaps you could pm him. I am.possibly going to build one to and that would be a.concern of line as well. The olympia 23' is a simmilar boat with higher sides but I like the look of the chinook better.

I just finished building an aluminum Chinook last October. I built the 20.5 ft version and it's a beauty! We modified the way the cabin looked and made it a bit longer on the aft. We like the way the sides are not high because we are divers and need to roll back from the boat.

My advice is that if you build it in aluminum use a 1/4 plate for the bottom and 1/8 or 3/16 for sides. But it depends what your needs are. Also we built a swim platform and an outboard engine mount on it to gain more space in the cockpit.

It's a great boat, it cruises nicely and it's heavy duty. Also the V-Berth is spacious and comfy. Check out www.rockfishmarine.com for more pics and info

Cheers
Johnny
