I have used both methods of applying fiberglass cloth. The dry method is much easier in my opinion because you can position the cloth easily, hold in place with tape, and then spread the epoxy on top of it. I gave the hull a good coat of epoxy and let it dry before laying the glass down. That way the wood doesn't suck the epoxy away from the cloth. I overlapped the two sections at the keel, and then added a 3" or 4" cloth tape on top of that.
Pic of my process below.

I know it is darn near sacrilege to state anything against the process to some, but wouldn't it be just as effective to thicken the encapsulation coat prior to laying the cloth so that you could skip the filling screw holes part?

Well, she's ready for the final once over of screw filler. She shaped up nicely!

I posted in the epoxy section, but I am pushing the pause button for 4 years as the military has decided to send me to Germany. We are trying to decide if we should epoxy, glass, and prime or just epoxy and glass. Thoughts?

Most folks will advise a two-week cure on the epoxy before you try to start with painting. So if you are crunching for time you could stop there. Should be no problem with leaving it to sit for 4 years with just fiberglass on it especially if it's being stored inside. The hull looks great!

Let it sit without the paint. Try to do what you can to mitigate any mold growth from humidity.

Well, Tomorrow is the big day. I put 1 coat of epoxy on the boat, sanded it, then put another coat in areas that I had to sand to bare wood. At least now, there is 1 coat of poxy shield over the entire boat before storing it. I made the cradle. The boat trailer I bought was too short, so we sold it. Instead, we are renting a 26' Uhaul and will be flipping the boat and loading it onto the cradle inside the uhaul truck tomorrow. Hopefully nothing bad happens. Friday, we ill drive it to Virginia where she will be stored in the barn for 4 years while we complete our tour in Geilenkirchen Germany.

Thanks everyone for the great pictures! I have a stupid question for the group. What is the best way to remove the epoxy-dust after sanding the first epoxy layer. A damp cloth? A tack clock? Anything else?

Soap and water. It gets the dust and helps remove any amine blush.

Well, I had way too many friends show up and help...good problem to have...it was like tossing a chunk of wood. She's flipped. I tried a 26' Uhaul, but the opening was too small, so I returned it and got a Penske. We unload it in Virginia tomorrow.
