Started laying down the 5/16th thick deck, 2.5 wide Mahogany with 5/16” wide strips of Maple between. If my Squirt, Malahini and Barrelback are ever all parked next to each other it will be comical because they will all have the exact same decking.

Securing each piece while the PoxyGrip sets isn’t as simple as you’d think. As always, lots of geometry happening at once. The Maple strip has to be held down vertically and held tight horizontally against joining piece. Clamps alone won’t get the vertical pressure needed and they aren’t long enough after a few courses of decking. So, I use stuco lath screws, they have a built in washer, one screw pulls down and another screw comes in an angle to draw it tight to the side. Key is, don’t over torque the screw and dent the wood. I left everything 1/16th proud so all the little imperfections can be sanded out.

Hercdrdr,
I assume caulk is or was used to combat expansion and contraction in the wood. Have you had any issues of that nature with the Squirt or Malahini ? I really like the idea and I was considering it for my build...........Carl

Not really any problems with using wood rather than the traditional caulking. My boats stay inside 355 days a year though.

Matt, I bet that was fun wrestling with. Did you get any help when doing it?

I need a way to hold my exhaust hoses in place. The hoses are fairly rigid and curve nicely from the engine to the transom exits but I want to manipulate their path a little bit and need a strap or something to give a pull in a couple places.
Ideas?

Matt, knowing nothing about engines and exhaust, how about something like this https://www.cabletiesandmore.com/cable-tie-mounts-nylon attached to your frames. If the exhaust gets too hot you could use a stainless steel hose straps through the clip instead of zip ties.

I ordered a roll of this heavy duty rubber material to secure exhaust hoses. Might work or it might be a bust.

Perhaps a Google search in images will show some interior shots and give you some ideas

I just finished putting a 572 (9.4L) in my old suburban, this beast would be a great boat engine, 700 ft/lbs of torque and 625 hp all below 5200 rpm!!
Back to boat building, sorry about the deviation from approved forum content.

Hey Matt,
Nice motor but I wouldn't want to try to shoehorn that one into a barrelback.
On securing the exhaust hose, I made some brackets that are attached to a frame, that slide between the gussets on that same frame. If needed I can put some plumbers metal tape over the top. Pic below:
