Hi Carl. Thanks.
Are you the CSX inspector I spoke with at the gathering?
The 3mm Okume marine is from Homestead Hardwoods in Vickery, ohio. I could not find it locally, or any company that would order it for me.
The 1/2" and 3/4" marine is from K&I Lumber here in Louisville, as is the Red Grandis, mahogany substitute.
I would be glad to share any details that you would like. Text or call and stop by if you are in town. 502-681-3415

Hi Jim,
Yes we did meet at the gathering. I plan on officially starting my gentry build at the end of next month. I am eager to get started. I am envious that you are doing so well i appreciate the information i am sure it will come in handy. I did have a breakthrough this morning, i stumbled across a business named the wooden boat shop. It was formerly in Cincinnati but was relocated to Batavia, OH ( a little east of Cincinnati). Butch ( the owner) was a pleasure to speak to and was willing to help with any or all materials. He was also willing to help with any facet of build including motor if needed. His number is 513-652-3612 if you need anything he could offer. He does have a small website but there isn't alot on it.
I would love to come by sometime and check your barrelback out. If you need anything my number is 304-952-7317.

Thanks again, Carl

3 planks glued on each side and one ready to attach. Started pulling parts off the doner boats also.
I will have a nice Mastercraft hull and a Supra hull with complete 454 engine and Velvet drive with trailer if anyone is interested. Cheep!

Still working on the BB. One more plank to go on sides but need to put 2 more layers on the bottom first. Laid out the engine, prop shaft, strut and prop and it looks like the entire Mastercraft drive train will work in my boat! Yey!
Lots of sanding to come...

What engine is that in the above pic?
I see a reduction gear. Is that what your putting in your build?
Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!

Ford Windsor 351ci. with reduction drive. Not tickeled with the reduction, but that is what I have. I think the v8 adds about 6" and the reduction adds about 6" to the length of the drive train. Prop is 14" dia...Rear seat will need to be moved forward.

you don't need reduction for that build.
better to see if you can trade for a direct drive.
any Velvet drive reduction on that will hinder you, not help
Velvet doesn't have anything less than 1.5:1 in that tranny
A V8 with reduction in a hull like that, you won't be able to prop it

Did that reduction come out of the donor boat?

Sorry but is your name Kens?
Yes Kens, it is from a doner boat, Mastercraft. I'm not interested in power or performance in general. Reason is, this engine is more of both then the boat needs. So if I don't get the max out of it, doesn't matter to me.
With that said, what problems am i going to have? The 14" prop fits, as drawn full scale in the picture. As I said, the entire "drivetrain" looks like it will work.

Just by chance was the donor boat one of those 'wakeboard' boats?
One of those with the water tank you could fill up so the boat puts out a huge wake?

What size prop did it have? 4-blade?

The doner ski boat was not set up with water ballest.
Its a 14x18 3 blade prop.
