hi all from hawaii, i am fairly new at this and have a question, i am planning on building a boat and need for rough water at times, i was looking at the plans for true grit,olmpia, and norwester, i am looking for 23 feet and can handle the hawaiian waters, i really like the lines on the true grit and have seen some info on it the forums, and seems to handle rough water ok, was just wandering if had any ideas/opinions on the 3 boats.

What island are you from? I am thinking of taking another contract out there to Scoffield barricks.
What kind of speed are you wanting in a boat?

i am from the big island, i will be using it for fishing so i will need a little speed if were to get something big, thanks for the reply

Olympia and Norwester are deep vee full planing hulls. TrueGrit is a semidisplacement, deep vee forward nearly flat aft. Truegrit does get up on plane and would likely handle better at moderate speeds.
Have you looked at Double Eagle?

Double Eagle makes 25mph on 130hp inboard diesel. That is very well up on plane. And with that large skeg rudder, she is a single engine inboard that can be backed down and turned around, and manoevered.
There is a few write ups on that in the newsletters, customer photos, project registry, and the speed table chart.
Somebody wrote that they got stuck in bad water and stuffed it into some breakers.

ken been there at how fast thanks, i am more of a gas power than diesel. i am a auto tech i do gas and diesel and feel more comfy with gas and think i will go with the double eagle, do you think a 4.3L gas would do the trick? hope u come to hawaii so i can buy you beer or a coke (your preferance) for all your help, have u built any boats like this before? thanks ken

I am building D. Eagle now, it is in photo section.
4.3L would push that along 27-30 mph or so.

Ken your boat is looking great. The "Gathering" set up is the best... wish I could be there to see that gigantic outboard powering you up the river!
I am considering another build. 1 have the plans for the Double E but will probably settle for one of the Dory designs (with deck house).
