 Post subject: water line?

This may be a stupid question, but how is the water line determined on a boat when its being designed?

Waterline calc can be tricky. But, the designer would estimate the weight of the boat. Then using the USCG regulation calculate the weight it would take to sink the boat under the best of conditions. Then take about 1/5 of that calculate what the waterline should be. That would be the design waterline. You would probably not load the baoat that much.
