Thanks, everyone!! Not sure what's next. Boat? Car? Airplane? All of the above? I'll probably just enjoy what I have and have a sabbatical. I may be going in for knee surgery soon. Possible torn meniscus.  Find out in a week.

Nice Job Roberta,

When is it going to hit the water? And what are you going to do for a steering bar?

Bill

Thanks, Bill. The Merc 110 doesn't lend itself well to the traditional bar used by the older racing outboards. On a motor this small, a piece of angle AL clamped to the back of the hood has worked for many. This will be fine until I upgrade to a better motor.

I got it from Cruise Marine. They are one of the few places that supplies 1/2" hollowback. Very nice people. If you order 8 ft pieces, they can be shipped UPS. An 8 ft piece will do half the bow with a little extra. One more, cut in half, will do the sides.

Roberta,

On their site, 8' lengths of the 1/2" is not an option, but 3/4" is, ... Did you get the 3/4" or did you have the cut the 12' to 8' before shipping?

Bill

I'm sorry! My brain must be going soft. I called them and they cut two 12 ft pieces for me, so I netted two 8s and two 4 ftrs. This worked out perfectly for the sides and bow.

I have a 10' hydroplane that I'm re-doing. I am thinking about using a rotary steering set up. Do you think there is enough room under the front to fit?

Excellent. Looks like a fun ride on a calm day.

Must be nice to have all that garage space. I presume your cars have to persevere the elements.

The rotary unit itself would not be a problem on the Super Spartan, but the bend in the cable could be as it leaves the helm. It might be necessary to penetrate the coaming (or go under it) and route it along the outside of the coaming under the deck, then exit the deck back near the transom. Then a bend to the tilt tube. Certainly do-able. I was going to do that, but wanting to use vintage race motors later on, I chose to install the proper gear for that and temporarily rig the Merc 110 for this year. This motor won't push the boat fast enough to be a problem.
