Has anyone put in a bow lift ring on there Zip.
If so did you find one that fit around the stem or did you have to make one. Only one I have been able to find has a flat bracket with 2 holes for screws and a round looking nut made in to attach the rod going through the deck.
I was looking for some thing a little more substanical.

I think what you are saying is you want the lifting eye attached like part "A" in the diagram shown in the link below.

I installed one on my ZIP using what vupilot has shown. I used my front 'U-Bolt' that went through the stem to anchor the bottom piece of the assembly. I have used it multiple time to 'lift' the boat, together with the 2 'U-Bolts' that go through my transom.

"ZIP - IT LIVES" is a posting I made of the finished boat. You can search here to find the thread with the title I've given you. I'd say it's about 6" back from the point of the bow. Strong enough to lift the boat, so I know it's a secure attachment point to the trailer, and god forbid I ever need a tow, with a 54 year old motor, nice to know the bow eye will handle it!

"And The Lord said let there be light - ZIP Wiring"

In this thread of mine is a good shot of the bow eye set up without the deck in place so you can see how it all comes together. My U-Bolt through the stem holds the bottom piece. Good Luck!

I looked over the picture of the bow ring. Did you through bolt the bracket to the stem or are the bracket bolts epoxied into position?

The bracket IS thru bolted to the stem. There is a 'U-Bolt' that goes through the stem that does double duty as bracket retainer for the bow eye/lift and a secure connection for the trailer winch cable.

That is a good looking windshield you have on your boat. where did you find that. Also saw your pic of the installation of life eye.
Did your motor run ok when you got it . Or did you need to do any work to it?
Mine is 1961 45 hp short shaft. Have not tried it yet. Has good compression and goes into forward and reverse.
So we will see. Would you have changed your water pump impeller if so was it hard to do and find parts.
Thanks Jeff

My uncle gave me the engine and I pretty much fully restored it. The power head was fine so that's about the only thing I didn't touch, 120 psi compression across all 4 cylinders. Totally stripped and repainted with reproduction decals, carbs rebuilt, new impeller, points, condenser, bottom end gutted and cleaned with new seals, etc., etc., etc. all the aforementioned parts are semi readily available. An engine manual is a must, and some mechanical aptitude desireable.

I believe Roberta posted an excellent thread here with photos on her engines bottom end rebuild.

I kind of did things in reverse, chose the boat design to fit the motor.

The windshield came from a "donor" boat, as well as the '60/'61 "Champ" trailer. I wound up 'chopping' the windshield down about 5" to better 'proportion' the windshield to the boat.

Thanks for the reply on your motor and windshield.
I made a mock up of a u shaped bracket yesterday. That will go over the stem in front of the last forward frame.
Gave to my son to have one made out of stainless steel. It will have a 5/8 ss nut welded to the top,so that lifting rod can attach.
It will be fastened by drilling 2 5/16 holes through the stem and bolting it on.
I have a horse head lifting eye that I am going to use. They were used on Century Boats. Century boats were called the Thoroughbread of Boats back in the 50s
Will post pics after I get it and install it.
