What prop do your recommend for my 15 hp Evinrude on my TT? I'm 180-190#.
What I have now is probably intended when the 15 is pushing a 14' alum boat w/2-3 people on board.
Thanks in advance,

Check out iboats for prop options. Since the Tiny Titan is only 65 lbs you can most likely use the most aggressive prop you can find. They have two 11 inch pitch props for the 1950's 15 for $81.99 and $88.99. Just go to their prop page and input your motor info.

iboats offer up to an 11" pitch, but that's what I have (on my 2004). I was wondering if others have found more pitch to work better. I seldom run full throttle, so I can live with what I have I suppose.

Jim, what you need to do is get a full throttle RPM reading in use.

See where you are in the RPM range for the motor, and vary the pitch til you get it right

But to do it, you need to have a base line (current RPM with current prop) to know whether to go up or down with pitch

Some of these guys on this forum run these and may have a better idea for your set-up:

I bought a prop for my 1974 Evinrude 15 hp about 6 months ago and on my Tiny Titan it runs beautifully. Its a 9.5 X 12.5 pitch. This is really the only place to buy it unless you find it on ebay like I did but I waited a long time for it. They are not common.
Hope this helps,
Dan
P.S. Depending on the year of your 15, the stock prop for it is a 9.5 X 10 (1974 through about 1993) and if it is an old 15 the prop is probably a pitch of 11" but I am not sure of the diameter.

BoatBoy88, Thanks for the link. That place is w/in 20 miles of where I live.

I have a 2004 Evinrude and my current prop is 9X11.

Evidently you had no 'fit' problems so it sound like I do not need to be concerned that it says "DESIGNED PRIMARILY FOR 1993 MODELS".

I just found out about the September gathering in TN and I'm thinking of pulling my TT down behind by Gold Wing. Any chance you'll be going? I haven't checked into lodging yet.

Joyfully,
Jim

Jim,

Would be great to see you and your TT at the Gathering. Please do come. Would be neat to see it pulled by a Goldwing too! There are a couple others coming from Michigan as well.

I believe there are still land cabins available, they are just up the hill from the dock with the floating cabins. Some floating cabins may end up canceling as we get closer and things come up for people so keep an eye on the Gathering 6 thread and you can snatch one up.

Call to make your reservation and let us know which cabin you reserved on the Gathering 6, 2012 thread of this forum. Most folks will show up thurs and stay till sunday but several will get there sooner and stay later as well.

My patience ran out so I called Advantage Prop. Disc. Ctr and had them REPITCH a new prop to 13". Total cost was $159.94 w/freight and it arrived within about a week. (Paint still feels fresh).

Now I'll be impatient for the ice to leave the lake...

MOPman,

When picking a prop for a hydro, there are a few things that need to be worked out. First the RPM at WOT has to be known, the weight of your ride and your weight has to be known. You also have to have the motor trimmed out correctly, and the hydro riding in the water as a hydo should, slightly nose high and sponson's flying.

After that, then a prop guy can work out a solution for you. Just buying props willy-nilly will get expensive very quickly. What a lot of hydro guys do is "Try" before they buy.

I'm still dialing in my Spartan and it's already blistering fast now, but it's still not at her full potential. Once I get all the factors inline, then I will get a prop made for it. There are a few guys that make custom props and these are they guys who will make your prop custom to "YOUR" particular needs.

Do you have any pictures of your Titan?

Regards
Bill

Bill,

I can understand the logic of all the WOT RPM testing if a person was planning to race, but I just use it for fun so I was thinking if someone else with a stock 15 hp Johnson/Evinrude had done all that testing and settled on a prop, then I should be happy with the same prop.

Here's a close up of my TT and how you might see me getting to/from the lake.

Maiden voyage w/new prop this am. The 9 1/4 x 11 new prop pitched to 13 worked very well. I didn't have any way to check my speed, but I'm quite sure it was more than the 30 mph I had with the 11" pitch. I can't imagine that my 9.9 wouldn't also handle the increased pitch.

I was a little more excited about the modifcation I made to reduce the spray from the sponsons. The results were far better than I anticipated so now I have another idea.

I guess the video clips are too big to add since I get a notice that "The extension avi is not allowed." If interested in seeing the difference, send me a PM at Jim@Ridingiswonderful.com and I'll send them to you. I made two clips to compare at cruising speed and full throttle.

If you have a Photobucket account or similar, (free) load it up there and post the link here. Some folks don't like having movie files emailed to them, ... security reasons.

Not saying that your any risk or the files you send would be, ... but the old rule of thumb is, ... don't D/L anything your not sure about it's origins.
