Is a 15" OB shaft long enough or is the 20" better for the power row skiff either 13.5 or 15.5 wb. I realize the transom notch can fine tune it but wondering what other builders have done. Also, what is the minimum HP some one used and what is the max HP used on this boat. I haven't bought the OB or built the boat yet but it's coming this spring.

I used the 15" shaft cause all my motors are 15"

The plans show both heights, so if you were to build for 20", it's easy to cut a notch later for 15" if you end up with one of those.

I've not had any issue with water coming over the transom with a 15" notch, so it really doesn't mater which height you use in my opinion

In the 4-15 HP range, most motors are 15" anyway

I've only run a little with an 18HP on my 13 1/2 WB, but I think an 8-10 may be more suitable. Depends what you want to do & what load you carry

Once I get back from Florida, I'll do a final measurement in my garage, I hope to build the 15.5 WB. Motors: I'm thinking of a 8hp or 9.8hp. I've looked at some good prices online "Discount Outboards" and they feature TOHATSU which also makes Nissan and Mercury,, Tohatsu is cheaper. Does anyone know about this brand?

The other thing is I really don't know much about outboard installations. I'm thinking of having a small sitdown console about 1/3 of the way fwd from the transom. From this console I would like to steer, start, shift and throttle. How do I accomplish this? I've done some reading online and they talk about push pull, pull pull, cables, etc, etc. The outboard contact didn't really spell things out for me. Is there a reference somewhere that really explains what I would have to do? I do realize they reccomend putting the battery opposite the gas tank with electric start. I would greatly appreciate any help or references with this. Thanks so much. Ken (klitz)

I've owned two 18 HP 2 stroke Tohatsu's and love them (first one was stolen)

Gran Chillin just bought a 4HP : viewtopic.php?p=113891#p113891

Easiest to instal would be like the Teleflex with a tilt tube mount if the motor allows a tilt tube mount not sure if the 8 or 9.8 have a large enough tube to fit a cable, but their are alternative mounts

Not sure if these engines have electric start, but they would pull start easily anyway

You don't need the no-feedback unit on this installation

Ken,

Most online outlets require their remote outboard models be shipped to and installed by a dealer. For warranty reasons I guess. Get an installation quote before you order your motor.

Some don't ship them at all.
