I expanded my Squirt to eleven feet by increasing the transom to frame #1 by 6" and frame # 1 to frame #2 by another 6". I am now ready to add the interior framework: deck battens, combings, dash, etc.

I am wondering if I should keep the cockpit dimensions as in the plan or take advantage of the possible increase.

I realize that the seat will still line up with the aft frame #1 (which is now 6" forward from plan measurement) and that one consequence is that the aft deck becomes 24" wide versus the plan 18", but how about the dash? It would seem that the dash would also move aft by an additional 6" (for a total of 18" aft of frame #2 versus the plan 12") in order to preserve the cockpit dimensions as per plan.

I guess that what I am asking is if the cockpit should be expanded or it the forward deck should just be allowed to increase in length by the 6".

Hope this makes sense.

What have others done?

Expand in every chance you get. It is a tight fit to start with. You will be glad you added the room.

I believe that Jeff Cobb's Squirt build expanded the cockpit aftward by about 6". I recently expanded mine forward 5" and added an inch at the back end of the cockpit too. I felt that the original dimensions were just too tight for a 6'2" person.

Good luck.

I have decided to allow the cockpit to expand the 6" forward that occurs due to the enlargement to 11 feet. I was originally concerned that my grand sons would not be able to reach the steering wheel comfortably, but it appears not to be a problem.

Thanks for the guidance.
