Well I am done with the bottom. Today we finished painting the bottom of our Zip. What a treat to finally have a antifouling bottom paint the color that I wanted. A dark Green. I bought a 2 quarts of Pettit's Vivid antifouling paint. Green and Black. Took them to a local paint store and with the help there we inter mixed the green and black and yellow tint to come up with the color I liked.
2 Pictures to show the color.
Tomorrow we are going to finish sand the sides and get them stained. Will post pics of that
Thanks for the help on the placement of the water line
Jeff

Now on to sanding and staining the sides. This is what I think I am going to do. Stain with a filler stain. Use Pettit,s products. First their sealer, then their high build varnish, then their captians varnish.
I just got back from the Antique Boat Center in Ciny. They had sumposium sponsored by the Antique and Classic Boat Society.
The boat center people put on the event. We were shown all the aspects of restoring a classic wood boat. Including staining and finishing. With the above process the put out some real show quality boats.
The other thing they showed us was how to get a dust free finish. Following the final coat (allowing it to cure) of varnish there is a process using a different grit buffing compounds to achive a smooth finish. Like what would find on a piano.
