Things are moving quickly at this point only to come to a screeching halt next week, ... paint drying, ... I can't wait.

I sanded the Okoume decking and gave her a lite coat of microballons, sanded it with 80 grit, and laid 4 oz E-glass on the bias. I had 20 lineal feet left of my 30" wide bolt, it took it all. I had to hit the scrap bag for a small corner on the Cowl. I applied the epoxy in a pretty good coat to allow me to sand it without tearing into the glass itself. I then applied another coat of microballons and that's were I sit right now. I will sand it tonight and see where I go from their, ... Another microballons coat or primer, ... I'll just have to wait and see.

Yesterday, ... I found out that in the LA area, ... they have no clue as to how to register a homemade boat. Long story short, ... 2.5 hours of supervisors, clerks, phone calls to Sacramento, ... but it was done! At first they wanted to charge me tax on stuff I bought out of state! I asked them, "Are you going to pass the tax to the state of Washington and Ohio? they said no, ... so I told them Then I'm not paying it. They wanted to charge me tax on the outboard and paint. I reminded them that the outboard is not exclusive nor hard mounted to the boat. And I also asked them if I bought a boat and had it painted 3 years from now with paint from out of state, ... would they charge me tax on my registration renewal, ... they said no, ... Duh! Well they finally pulled their head out, of, ... well you get the idea.

I got her registered and I made an aluminum test HIN plate to embed into the wood. I need to practice a little to get the numbers straight, ... not bad for the first test. I beveled the edges so the thickened epoxy will prevent her from coming out.

Looking good, I feel lucky here in Ireland with the fact that there is no need to register your boat you just build and go :D

Ah, ... It's not that bad "IF" you have competent people doing the paper work, something we seem to have a problem with in the Glendale, California DMV office.

Besides, ... it's not a financial breaker, ... $29.00 for registration and for the HIN. Bi-annual registration is only $20.00.

Numbers were added to the hull. I used a dremel with a router attachment to get my recessed hole.

Pretty fancy, Bill!! I printed mine out on a label machine, slapped it on, and put a few coats of varnish over it.

Great looking build!

The state of Missouri sends you an aluminum plate with the HIN already printed. The only problem is you have to wait 8 weeks for it. They also don't try to charge you sales tax since you presumably paid tax when you bought the material.

Today, I welded up a Boat Cart, and gave her 3 decent coats of primer. Oh soooo smooth. Time to flip her over and give the bottom some color.

Thanks for the complements, ...

I got tired of carrying the boat out every day, ... So I welded up a boat cart that breaks down for easy transport. At first I made it a continuous cross piece on the back from angle iron, but it was pointed out that I needed to have the back open so I could use a couple of important tools, a height and angle checker for the motor. I will also be making the tools this week from aluminum. Te first picture shows the first version, then a picture after it's been modified.

Now, ... life is good!

Thanks Roberta,

No, ... just looking to make my life easier AND getting rid of a bunch of extra tubing I have from building my off-road vehicle from the ground up, which is still in the works (85% completed). The cart is much simpler to move the boat instead of the trailer. And boy, ... will it ever come in handy when I paint the exterior. A racer sent me the plans, and I tweaked them a little, ... well, more than a little, ... all for the better!

Nice score on the foam. I bought some that's 1" thick and I think it's 24x48 and is REAL nice closed cell foam. I think I paid like $35.00 for it. The cat, ... found one side of it though, ...

I decided to not go with the turn fin that the plans note. I was feeling that at the speeds my Spartan will be flying at, wouldn't be in the water enough. I went with a more modern style fin that folds up if it encounters something floating in the water.

If anyone is going to build the Spartan, they can have the fin for free + shipping. I will also post the fin in the classified section along with a few other parts that I swapped out.

I also prefer the longer fold up fin, especially for trailering. Right now I do not have a fin on my Super Spartan and it turns very well with the Merc 110, but the speeds aren't that high. Later on when I get a bigger motor, I will install the fin.
