Another classically finished Zip is about to grace the waters!

It looks great! I really like the contrast of the sapwood and heartwood in you king-plank cover board.

Thanks guys.

So today we got the boat on the trailer. Had 8 of us with straps under it and just walked it out.

Taking it to a spray painter to do the deck in automotive clear coat as I've run out of time to varnish it.

The obligatory photos below:

So I cheated a bit and got my local spray painter to spray automotive clear over the deck. They did a great job, although I understand there was a bit of a learning curve...

Shiny!! :D

You just built my dream boat, Barra.

I hope my Flying Saucer looks half that nice.

I'm starting a Zip in March for my best friend and he wants it to look like yours only with a windshield.

May I ask what brand of paint you used for the hull?

Take care,

Great job. I like the finish on the deck.
Was the decks sealed or have any varnish on before the sprayed the clear coat on
And what did they use product wise to clear coat the decks.

Thanks everyone. I'm really happy with how it's coming out, really is a nice design.

Flash, I cheated and had the hull professionally spray painted using Awlcraft I believe. I did the prep work with Jotun Penguard high build primer which was nice to use.

Jeff, I sealed the deck with epoxy before taking to the spray painter. Should have used more epoxy as I must have sanded to much as the painter said he was still get gas coming out of the timber into the clear coat. The clear coat is a 2 pack poly they use on cars but I don't know the brand.

The gauges are in now and hooking up steering tonight. Need to do upholstery next.. Would like to do that myself but the seat backs have an 'interesting' shape due to the side consoles and I want pleats etc which are probably beyond my limited skills...

That out gassing might have been from the epoxy. How long did you let it cure and at what temp/humidity before spraying?

Not that it matters now--it looks awesome!

I love the white hull (biased), and the bright work is super clean. Nice job brother!
