Prop Selection - redux

Postby gdcarpenter » Tue Mar 10, 2015 5:02 pm

Hi all, particularly Mr. Hot Rod.

Working on re powering my ZIP.

It currently has a 1959 Mark35A - 35 HP (@ the C/S).

With a brass - 10" diameter - 3 blade - 10" pitch prop, she runs a rock steady 30 MPH at a hair under 5,600 RPM.

Solo driver @ 165 LB plus boat a bit under 800 LB fully geared for a day on the lake. Final Gear Ratio is 14/23 and boat is 14'-4" long.

With a brass - 10" diameter - 3 blade - (with some cupping) - 9" pitch she runs 28 MPH @ 5,800 RPM with an amazing hole shot.

If all goes well the new/old engine will be a 1958 Mark58 - 45 HP (@ the C/S). I have 2 prop options at the current moment:
aluminum 10 3/4" diameter - 2 blade - 11" pitch
brass 10 3/4" diameter - 2 blade - 12" pitch.

Which do you think would be the best starting point?

The Mark58 is still 'a work in progress' but hope to "git 'er done" for this coming summer season.
