G10 Gathering.

Postby cusoak » Mon Oct 19, 2015 4:09 am

In thinking about next years 10thmGlen L Gathering, I had a thought. As a Zip builder and asking question about my build and getting great help from this forum, there were a lot of people building or had just finished there builds when I was asking questions.
What if we all tried to set aside time next year when the G10 gathering is and attend it.
I think it would be great to see a lot of Zips there at one time.
So what do you think Zip builders, let's how many we can get there.
I am in.

It's a long way off, but I will put it on my wish list to join the other "Zippers" at G10. Keeping in mind that when one makes plans God laughs:)
This is my first, last and only boat build.

Great minds think alike. I was just saying the same thing on the Zipology thread.

The Zip is, IMHO, one of the MOST prolific and popular designs that Glen ever turned out. And it's a design that is perfect for the first time builder who may or may not have the courage or the self-confidence in his own abilities to tackle a larger design. As a result, there are just THOUSANDS of them out there. (..or at least it seams like it.)

I will definitely set my goal to have my Zip completed by then.

A special forum on Zip building at GX--I like the idea.
It will give me even more motivation to attend.

The discussions would surely be useful across the board too.

Perhaps the slowest Zip build in Glen-L history...

Ten years of the Glen-L Gathering is a great thing! I just want to see ALL kinds of Glen-L boats come out of the woodwork. We know there are many boats/owners within a reasonable drive that haven't made it yet and many that came in the early years but haven't made it in recent years so I hope EVERYBODY tries especially hard to make it. I have it on our family calendar.

I think G10 deserves special attendance! I want any and all promotion of this event! You will not regret coming. In nine years we have only had one person who said they weren't glad they came. That person, I guess, just walked around the dock and didn't speak to anyone. Her lose. Nobody seemed to remember her. Boats go in and out all the time giving rides. We load the boats up on Friday and go to lunch in Chattanooga. But, Zips can easily make the trip!

Roberta sold her Zip. BUT!! She sold it AT the Gathering to a friend of John Amundson named David. (Gee, I wonder how I was able to remember that name? :? ) He might very well be back next year with Roberta's Zip.

Dewesh Srivastava, a friend of John Amundsen, has purchased the Zip. They will be coming to Wisconsin soon to pick it up. I understand he has a desire to bring it to G10. Dewesh, who goes by "Dave", was at G9 with John when we negotiated a deal on Oliver IV. I think he will be very happy with the boat and I am very glad it will be going to a good home.

I agree! Anyone who brings Laphroaig 18 to the Gathering is OK in my book.

Yep and Oliver gets stored right here at Lakeland in my hangar. David lives and works in New York and plays in Florida.

Can he not find a place to play that's closer to home?

You know... that's probably because he made way too much noise as a child. His mother kept sending him farther and farther away to play.

He got addicted to airplanes. And now. It's wood boats.
He also has a house down here for his mother in the winter. We will be heading north in a week or so to see Roberta.
