Tubby tug build

Postby 1Capperr » Wed Feb 03, 2016 9:42 am

Hi everybody, i an just starting a tubby tug build and haven't even got all my pieces cut out and already have a few questions. Do you stitch and glue your bulkheads and bulkwarks to your 1x's for your seat bases? I was also thinking of painting my bottom before i put my 1x’s on. Works it be OK to use top side paint for the inside of the hull?

I don't really know the answer, but I think painting first might interfere with the epoxy bond. Maybe some with more experience with paint will chime in.

Also try posting your question in the paint section.

Welcome!

Yeah dont paint where epoxy needs to bond.

There are several Tubby Tug builders on the forum but in the mean time maybe Kevin's Tubby Tug build blog will help you out if you haven't already looked at it.... http://www.tubbytug.com/BuildPage1.html

So the only thing that holds the 2 bottom pieces together is the 1x's inside and the tape outside? I've looked at the plans to see if you stitch them together and haven't seen anything.

Although I don't have the Tubby Tug plans, yes, I believe that to be correct. Looking at pictures of other customers builds. http://boatbuilders.glen-l.com/tubby-tug-design/
The strength should come later from boxing in the aft end with the transom and seat box back there and the fiberglass tape helps too. Once epoxy bond is made the epoxy is stronger than the wood surrounding it.
