Greg, that is a really nice boat. Just beautiful work.

I would caution you about one thing. The Mercury manuals suggest that the external keel should end a couple feet, or more,
ahead of the transom. And it should end in a streamlined taper.

Otherwise, that external keel can cause turbulent water flow, leading to prop cavitation, and performance loss.

That's a really nice motor, too.

thanks the motor is a 1966 35 hp runs good restored and cant wait to run it!

My Mercury manual did recommend that the skeg end about three feet in front of the transom and be tapered to avoid the turbulent flow to the prop. I think mine was about five feet long and well tapered. Here is a pic of it. I had a Merc 500 and the boat handled very well,

Your boat is looking great! [url]Love[/url] that windshield. The motor is gorgeous, too. Earlier this year, I lost a bidding war on eBay for a 1966 Merc 500 that was just stunning.... very much like your 35. Beautiful motor!
